About Rebecca Mays

Rebecca Mays is a London florist bringing an individual, theatrical approach to wedding flowers, working season by season with a signature for unconventional textures, peacock feather alongside peony and chocolate cosmos among them.

Rebecca Mays has been designing flowers for weddings and parties since 2000. Her background is in theatre rather than horticulture, and it shows: her own description of her work is that it is fun and dramatic, built from flowers and foliage chosen because they are seasonal, and a little different from what else is on offer that month.

That instinct shows up as a genuine signature rather than a gimmick. Peacock feather appears again and again through the portfolio, worked into bouquets of peony, gladioli and Muscari, alongside more classical work: bridal bouquets in chocolate cosmos, a grand pedestal arrangement inside an ornate church, a jam-jar arrangement of peony and cornflower for a smaller, unfussier day. Rebecca works alone rather than as a studio, taking on a limited number of weddings each year alongside private parties, events and her own one-to-one wreath-making classes.

Made For

Intimate London weddingsSeasonal, foraged-style celebrationsWeddings in unconventional or historic spacesCouples who want their flowers designed personally, not templated

Rebecca Mays trained for the theatre before she trained with flowers, and she names it herself as the reason her designs read as fun and dramatic rather than safe. Two decades on from launching her own business in 2000, that theatrical instinct is still the clearest thread through the portfolio: a bouquet of white peonies is rarely just a bouquet of white peonies once peacock feather, Muscari or a spray of gladioli has been worked through it. The other constant is season. Rebecca has written her own account of what each time of year gives her to work with, from berried ivy and dark Anemone in winter to chocolate cosmos massed in a vintage cocoa tin for a late-summer party, and her own verdict runs against the obvious assumption: "it is often thought that the summer is the best season for flowers... but for me the winter is the most creative time." It is a working method built around what a given month actually offers, rather than a fixed list repeated regardless of the calendar.

The first florist on my list

Rebecca is, simply put, brilliant. I've been recommending and hiring her for my clients' weddings for the past six years now and when we got married ourselves she was the first florist on my list to call. She works sensitively and with great imagination with each client, treating them individually depending on their taste, style and budget and delivers each brief beautifully. I highly recommend you give Rebecca a call.
