Villa Paola is a former convent above Tropea, on Calabria's Costa degli Dei, reimagined as a 5-star boutique hotel and taken privately for one wedding at a time. Whitewashed cloisters, vaulted rooms and sea-view terraces look out to the Aeolian Islands, and the whole property, indoors and out, is the couple's alone for the day.

A genuinely private wedding, not just a private terrace. The convent is taken exclusively: no other hotel guests, the cloisters, gardens, pool and rooms all held for one wedding party. That distinguishes it from a resort that also happens to host weddings; the trade-off is scale, not privacy. Weddings here run to a maximum of 90 guests, a limit the venue itself sets, not a shortfall of space.

The building began in the mid-16th century as a convent of the Minim friars, the order founded by San Francesco di Paola, from whom the venue takes its name; the in-house restaurant, De' Minimi, carries the same lineage. In the 19th century the building became a leather-processing workshop, and by the early 20th century a private residence, before its restoration into today's hotel. The cloisters and vaulted ceilings that survive are original to the convent, not a later addition built to look the part.

Ceremony & Reception Spaces

Ceremonies and receptions have four settings to choose from: the Belvedere terrace, the garden, the restaurant terrace, and an indoor Ballroom. Legal civil ceremonies in Italy take place at the comune, as they do everywhere in the country; ceremonies here are symbolic. The venue does not publish separate figures for each space, only a single property-wide maximum of 90 guests, so ask directly if a specific space's capacity matters to your plans.

Food & Wedding Dining

Dining is in-house only, by the De' Minimi restaurant: fine dining drawn from Calabrian flavours, with much of the produce grown in the convent's own vegetable garden. Tables are laid on the terraces above the sea or within the vaulted rooms.

Accommodation

Rooms and suites run across four categories, Deluxe, Executive, Junior Suite and Prestige, within the convent walls; the total room count isn't published. A pool and a Thalasso spa fill the days around the wedding, useful for a multi-day stay rather than a single afternoon.

Villa Paola sits above Tropea, on Calabria's Costa degli Dei, about fifty minutes from Lamezia Terme Airport (SUF). The Aeolian Islands, including the smoking cone of Stromboli, are visible from the terraces across the Tyrrhenian on a clear day.

Wedding Costs & Commercial Conditions

Villa Paola is quoted entirely on enquiry; there is no published starting price for wedding hire. Catering is provided exclusively in-house by the De' Minimi restaurant, and the whole property is reserved for one wedding at a time, with no other hotel guests present. The LWD team makes the introduction and helps request a tailored proposal.
