Captain's Club Hotel stands on the quay at Wick Ferry, where the Stour widens on its way through Christchurch. There is no drive and no lawn. There is a river on one side, a marina on the other, and a curved white building that faces both. Weddings start at twenty guests and stop at around a hundred and ten, and the hotel is honest about that.

Ceremonies are held inside. The hotel is on the national register of approved premises for civil marriage, entry 006583, licensed by BCP Council, and all three official packages place the vows in one of the suites rather than outdoors. The Waterside Suite is the room most couples take: white linen, limewash Chiavari chairs, and the river along the full length of the glass. The Starboard Suite takes 80 for a wedding, and the Port Suite seats 40 and opens onto the terrace for drinks.

The Table

Two Rosettes, Cooked In-House.

The Club Restaurant holds 2 AA Rosettes under head chef Mo Sabbir, and every wedding menu is cooked in that kitchen. External caterers are not used. Plates arrive with the river a few metres away: a timbale set on a smooth bisque, saffron risotto with asparagus, a carpaccio with orange puree and pickled shallot, and afternoon tea on the terrace with the boats alongside.

The CC Spa

A Hydrotherapy Pool, Four Treatment Rooms.

The CC Spa is the reason a wedding here becomes a weekend. Four treatment rooms using ESPA and CND products, a hydrotherapy pool with a Jacuzzi and a resistance jet lit teal beneath a full-height window, a sauna, poolside loungers and a private sun terrace. It is a compact spa rather than a sprawling one, and the hotel does not pretend otherwise: there is no steam room and no gym.
