Massignac, Charente · Founded 13th Century

Seven Hundred Years in the Making

Founded as a fortified residence by the Dukes of Aquitaine in the 13th century, Domaine des Etangs has evolved across seven hundred years. From aristocratic stronghold to wheat farm to neglected ruin. In 2013, Garance Primat closed the property entirely and reimagined it as a living work of art. It reopened in 2015 as a five-star hotel, managed by Auberge Collection, recognised as the No. 1 hotel in France by Conde Nast Traveler readers in 2024, and awarded two Michelin Keys. The dragonfly, symbol of harmony, is present throughout the estate.

An Estate Without Equal
Weddings at the Domaine

An Estate Without Equal

A wedding at Domaine des Etangs is an occasion of genuine rarity. The private 2,500-acre estate, forests, lakes, meadows, and parkland, is exclusively yours. The 13th-century château and its constellation of farmhouses accommodate your guests in an environment that cannot be replicated: a living work of art, a one-Michelin-star kitchen, a spa in a century-old mill, and the art de vivre of the French countryside at its finest.

Farm-to-Table at the Highest Level
Dyades Restaurant · 1 Michelin Star

Farm-to-Table at the Highest Level

Dyades is the one-Michelin-star restaurant at the heart of the Domaine, drawing from the estate potager garden and the finest regional ingredients of the Charente. The philosophy is tradition and innovation, simplicity and sophistication, a French kitchen operating at the level couples expect from a property of this standing. Wedding celebrations at Domaine des Etangs are accompanied by the Dyades culinary team, ensuring every meal is an occasion in itself.

The Château

The Château

The 13th-century stone castle anchors the estate. Seven Prestige rooms and suites, each named after a celestial planet and conceived as both living space and gallery, with photographic works, Hermes chairs, and artistic lighting throughout.

Prestige Rooms

Les Métairies

Le Moulin Spa

Housed in a century-old mill, the spa has five treatment cabins named after the elements. Gallo-Roman inspired thermal baths, indoor pool, steam baths, frigidarium, and outdoor swimming pool. Treatments via Odacite, using natural, sustainably sourced ingredients.

Wellness

La Laiterie Gallery

An on-site gallery hosting world-class rotating art exhibitions. Site-specific sculpture installations in the gardens and forest clearings. The Domaine is as much a living cultural institution as it is a hotel.

Beyond the celebration, the Domaine offers a world unto itself. Forest walking trails with estate rangers. Horseback riding through private woodland. A floating tennis court. The spa in the old mill. Art installations discovered in clearings. The dragonfly as guide, a symbol of harmony moving through water, earth, and air. For a wedding where guests arrive and do not wish to leave, there is nowhere quite like this.
