Fulham Palace is the former country residence of the Bishops of London, a Grade I listed Tudor palace on the edge of the Thames in Fulham, set in 13 acres of botanic garden. Its courtyard and Great Hall date to around 1495. Weddings unfold across four licensed ceremony rooms, the open Tudor Courtyard, a Victorian chapel for blessings, the Chaplain's Marquee and the state rooms, catered exclusively by Bovingdons, with a whole botanic garden for drinks and photographs.

A Ceremony Inside a Palace.

Four rooms are licensed for civil ceremonies, among them the Great Hall, panelled and hung with portraits, which holds up to 110, and Bishop Sherlock's Room, beneath its plaster ceiling, for up to 80. The open Tudor Courtyard, red brick around a fountain, seats up to 180 for a ceremony and up to 200 for a reception, and Bishop Tait's Chapel hosts blessings for up to 90. Drinks and canapes follow in the courtyard or the gardens, and the wedding breakfast, by Bovingdons, is served in the Chaplain's Marquee or the state rooms.

One Caterer, Known From the Start.

Catering is exclusive to Bovingdons, served in the Chaplain's Marquee, the Great Hall or the state rooms, with drinks in the Tudor Courtyard or the gardens beforehand. Menus are seasonal and built with each couple. Because the caterer is fixed and named, the food is a known quantity from the first meeting, not a decision left to chance.

Fulham Palace sits in 13 acres of botanic garden on the edge of the river, a walled garden and lawns first planted with exotics by Bishop Compton, a serious botanist, from the late 17th century. The moat that once ringed the palace was filled in 1921; the last bishop left in 1973; an independent trust has cared for the site since 2011. For a wedding it means a green, historic setting in the middle of London, with room to breathe.

Fulham Palace stands on Bishop's Avenue in Fulham, in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, on the north bank of the Thames beside Bishops Park. Putney Bridge Underground station, on the District line, is about a ten-minute walk, central London is a short journey by Tube, and London Heathrow is roughly forty minutes by road, so guests reach a historic palace and botanic garden without leaving the city.

Four rooms are licensed for civil ceremonies, among them the Great Hall (ceremonies up to 110) and Bishop Sherlock's Room (up to 80), while the open Tudor Courtyard holds up to 180 and seats up to 200 for a reception, and the Chaplain's Marquee and the Botanic Gardens take larger parties, the gardens up to 500.
