The Horn of Plenty stands in 5 acres on a hillside above the Tamar Valley, three miles west of Tavistock. The house went up in 1866 for the Duke of Bedford's Mine Captain. The restaurant arrived a century later and has run the place ever since. Four rooms are licensed for ceremonies, the kitchen holds three AA Rosettes, and sixteen bedrooms mean the celebration does not end at midnight with a taxi rank.

Four Licensed Rooms, and a Lawn Above the Valley.

Four rooms in the house are licensed for civil ceremonies and civil partnerships, taking up to 90, and the Devon Registration Service lists the hotel with four ceremony spaces. Outdoor ceremonies on the lawn above the valley are also offered, and the venue's own photographs show one taking place with a registrar present; no public register names an outdoor space, so confirm the legal position with the hotel and the Devon registrar before fixing a date. Afterwards the party moves to the restaurant for 90 to 95 seated, or into the evening for 120, with a marquee raising those figures to 150 and 200.

Modern British, West Country, Three Rosettes.

The kitchen is the hotel's own and there is no second brand over the door. Menus run modern British through West Country produce: crab with lemon, cucumber and celery, quail with a clear consomme and summer vegetables, duck with squash puree, girolles and blackberries, strawberry panna cotta with basil sorbet. Above 30 guests the menu is designed with the Head Chef, and the menu and wine tasting is included. The dining room looks down the valley through the glass.

The Valley Does the Decorating.

Five acres of garden fall away from the house toward the Tamar. There are brick steps between clipped box and lavender, a fountain that photographs well at dusk, terrace tables set out for lunch, and an oak pergola with seating that looks straight down the valley. It is the reason the photographs from this venue rarely need much dressing: the drop, the light and the far side of the valley do most of it, and the moor closes the view.

The Horn of Plenty does not publish its wedding prices; the brochure is released on enquiry. The only figure in circulation is third party and indicative: Guides for Brides shows weddings from around £2,000, typically £18,000, across a range of roughly £2,000 to £25,000. Treat that as a directory estimate rather than a quotation. What is confirmed is the structure: an exclusive hotel wedding runs 11am to 11am the following day and takes all 16 bedrooms, a weekend wedding extends it, and micro, afternoon and elopement weddings run on a non-exclusive basis alongside the hotel. Catering is in house only, and couples with more than 30 guests design their own menu with the Head Chef, with a menu and wine tasting included. The LWD team makes the introduction.
