La Posta Vecchia has occupied this stretch of the Tyrrhenian coast through three eras: a Roman seaside estate from the 2nd century BC, a 17th-century Renaissance villa for the Orsini family, and, in the 1960s, the private mansion of J. Paul Getty. Getty restored it with tapestries, marble busts, and antiques, and in doing so uncovered the ancient villa hidden beneath the floors. Today it is a five-star hotel of twenty-one rooms and suites, with a private beach, a Roman-style heated indoor pool, and its own museum of antiquities. The villa is available in full for one celebration, forty minutes from Rome.

La Posta Vecchia gives a wedding the rarest of settings: a Renaissance villa directly on the Tyrrhenian Sea, with a private beach club below and a Roman villa beneath its floors. A civil or symbolic ceremony can be held on the sea-view terrace or in the gardens where the ancient ruins lie open to the air. An aperitivo follows by the beach club as the light leaves the water, and the wedding banquet is laid in the villa salons among 17th-century tapestries and marble busts, or on the terrace under the stars. The Roman-style heated indoor pool, the Beauty Club, and all twenty-one rooms are open to the wedding party throughout. The villa, and everything in it, is exclusively yours.

Seafood from the Lazio Coast, Served on History.

Dining is led by the Da Aurelio kitchen, a name long associated with the seafood and Mediterranean cooking of the Lazio coast. Meals are set in the villa salons, on the sea-view terrace in the warmer months, and by the gardens, some laid on marble tops reclaimed from antique furnishings. Bar Piranesi pours aperitivi and cocktails beneath the tapestries and antiques. Wedding banquets are composed individually with each couple, drawing on the produce of the coast and the hotel gardens, always finished with the wines of Italy.

A Getty Villa on the Sea

A 17th-century Renaissance villa directly on the Tyrrhenian shore, restored in the 1960s as the private mansion of J. Paul Getty. Tapestries, marble busts, and rare antiques fill the salons, and the sea fills every window. Forty minutes from Rome.

The Roman Villa Beneath

Getty's restoration uncovered a Roman villa from the 2nd century BC: ancient walls, colourful mosaics, African and Greek marble, and amphorae. They are preserved today in the hotel's own museum and in the gardens, open to the sea. No other venue on this coast can say the same.

A Private Beach Club

The villa opens onto its own stretch of the Tyrrhenian Sea, with a private beach club for aperitivi at sunset and for the wedding party throughout the celebration. The Roman-style heated indoor pool and the Posta Vecchia Beauty Club complete the wellness offer.

The Roman Villa Beneath the Floors.

When J. Paul Getty restored La Posta Vecchia in the 1960s, his work uncovered a Roman villa from the 2nd century BC, first in the gardens and then beneath the Renaissance foundations. The Archaeological Authority recorded ancient walls, colourful mosaics, African and Greek marble, and an array of plate, amphorae, and ampules. Many of these discoveries are now preserved in the hotel's own museum on the lower ground floor, open to guests and the public, while other remains, including a pool with a white mosaic floor, lie open to the garden and the sea. Few wedding venues anywhere stand on, and within, two thousand years of their own history.

Palo Laziale, on the Tyrrhenian Coast Outside Rome

La Posta Vecchia sits directly on the sea at Palo Laziale, within the comune of Ladispoli, on the Tyrrhenian coast north of Rome. Rome Fiumicino Airport is approximately 30 minutes by car, and central Rome around 40 minutes; the airport makes the villa unusually easy to reach for an international guest list. The Ladispoli to Cerveteri rail station connects to Rome along the coastal line, and Cerveteri's Etruscan necropolis, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a short drive inland.
