Chapmans Peak Drive, Hout Bay

The suites stand on stilts.

Ten of them, one behind the next along a boulder shoreline, with the Atlantic breaking under the decks and the Sentinel rising across Hout Bay. There is no drive and no lawn. There is a boardwalk, a pool deck at the water's edge, a milkwood old enough to shade a dinner table, and twenty beds. Book all of them and the whole place is yours, including the right to make noise.

A Hundred and Twenty, and Only at The Look Out Point.

The Look Out Point is open air and a hundred and fifty metres on foot from the lodge, and it is the only space here that takes 120 for a ceremony. The Pool Deck and Guest Lounge take 80, with the water directly below the rail. Seated dining reaches 120 in the Elegant Dining Room, falling to 70 in winter, and standing receptions with circulating canapés reach 120, falling to 90 in winter. The packages include the ceremony setting, the arch, the furniture and the coordination; they do not include an officiant, and the marriage officer is the couple's to appoint.

The pool sits on the deck at the water's edge, with a pergola daybed, loungers and a rail guests lean on for most of the afternoon. Swimming stops at 19h00, which is the venue's rule and a sensible one on an unfenced deck above rocks. Beyond it the bay opens: the Sentinel on the far side, the surf below the boardwalk, and the same view from every suite, every deck and very nearly every photograph taken here.

Location

Chapmans Peak Drive, Hout Bay

Tintswalo Atlantic is on Chapmans Peak Drive, on the Hout Bay side of the pass, about thirty minutes from central Cape Town and, by the venue's own figure, 50 minutes and 35 km from Cape Town International. The road is the approach: cut into the mountainside above the water, then a turn down toward the sea. Hout Bay harbour is minutes away, the Constantia wine farms are over the neck, and the city is close enough for guests to fly in on the morning and still make lunch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tintswalo Atlantic

No. Catering is in house only: Chefs Warehouse at Tintswalo Atlantic creates the wedding menu and no external caterer is permitted on site. The restaurant occupies the deck and the room behind it, and the pass is a few metres from where the food is eaten.

Corkage applies to wine, Méthode Cap Classique and champagne only, at R210, R290 and R390 per 750ml, held to April 2027, and limited to one bottle for every two guests. Outside spirits, beer and soft drinks may not be brought in at all. There is a minimum bar spend of R750 per person and a 15% staff gratuity.

The venue publishes two sets. Outside winter the Elegant Dining Room seats up to 120 and a standing reception with circulating canapés holds 120. In winter the seated figure falls to 70 and the standing figure to 90. If you are planning a winter date for a hundred guests, that reduction should be the first thing you discuss.

Fire detection on this site is sensitive, so there are no fire-dancers, smoke machines, hazers, fire pits, sparklers or confetti cannons. Confetti and petals must be biodegradable. Nobody swims after 19h00. A sparkler exit is not possible here.

The bar closes at 23h00 on the smaller packages and at 01h00 on an exclusive takeover, and the venue lifts its noise restrictions entirely when you book an exclusive takeover package. Staffing beyond midnight is charged at R9,500 an hour, and a R15,000 breakages deposit is held.

Ten suites, all ocean-facing. Eight Island Suites stand on stilts above the rocks with private decks; Corsica takes a four-poster under a mosquito net with the sea through the glass, and Elba has a freestanding clawfoot bath and folding doors onto the water. Every suite has air conditioning, underfloor heating and a wood-burning fireplace. An Island Suite is from R11,900 a night for two sharing in low season.

No gardens and no beach in the postcard sense: the shoreline is boulders and pebbles, which photographs beautifully and walks badly in heels. There is a swimming pool on the deck at the water's edge. The venue publishes a spa page, but LWD could source no photography of treatment rooms or facilities from it and no treatment list, so we make no claim about spa provision. Ask the venue directly.

Compressed, and very close to the water. Guests wake in the suite they dress in, the walk to the ceremony is a boardwalk, and the longest journey anyone makes is the 150m up to The Look Out Point. Twenty people can take the entire property, light ten fires and keep the bar open until one in the morning with nobody to apologise to.
