It is available for exclusive use at no extra cost, which gives a couple the whole castle and 25 acres of grounds and gardens for the day, a rare thing in a house of this stature.
The heart of the castle is the Great Hall, oak-panelled and Victorian Gothic, with a ceiling that soars some seventy feet and a spectacular staircase that seems made for an entrance. Couples marry here beneath the carved timber and stained glass, or more intimately in the sumptuous Drawing Room, then take drinks and canapes in the Memorial Garden. The wedding breakfast is served in the vaulted Ballroom, its blue Gothic arches and chandeliers seating up to 120, and by night the Great Hall is transformed for the party.
Around the celebration there are grand reception rooms, the Billiard Room, richly coloured state bedrooms and the gold-plated Palace Bridal Suite for the wedding night. Catering is by the castle's own exclusive partner, and guests stay nearby, in Harrogate, York and the surrounding countryside. Couples bring their own wedding cake; no other outside food or drink is brought in, so the whole day is in expert hands.
