Garini Immagina Eventi

An architect who has designed Italian weddings from Milan since 2001, who wrote the manual on the subject, who runs his own banqueting kitchen, and who keeps the family villa on Lake Maggiore as a venue.

Ask most wedding designers what they do and you will get a list of the things they arrange. Ask Garini Immagina and you get a job description borrowed from another trade. Angelo Garini qualified as an architect, kept the interiors practice, and added celebrations to it, and he still approaches a wedding the way he would approach a room: read the space, work out what it already does well, work out what it will fight, and design outwards from that. He founded the studio in Milan in 2001. Twenty-five years later the concept, the scenography, the flowers, the lighting and the table still come from the same office, and so does the food.

That last part is the fact worth stopping on. Garini Immagina runs its own banqueting operation, under its own name, with its own brigade. A wedding at this level normally has a planner, a caterer and a florist, each on a separate contract, each with a slightly different idea of what the evening looks like, and a couple in the middle hoping the three visions converge somewhere around the aperitivo. Here the menu, the service and the table are drawn by the same studio that drew the scheme. It is quoted as its own line rather than folded into the design fee, which is the honest way to do it, and it means there is one office to hold responsible when something is wrong.
There is a third piece, and it is rarer still. The family house is a wedding venue. Villa Garini e Cà Bianchetti sits in the Golfo della Polidora at Laveno, on the eastern shore of Lake Maggiore, in a park of twelve thousand square metres. The Romanesque church of San Defendente stands in the grounds, so a religious ceremony happens where the reception happens. Civil ceremonies are held at Palazzo Perabò a few hundred metres away. There are two private moorings, so guests can arrive from the water. The Barchessa della Regina, a pavilion in the trees looking out over the lake, seats around a hundred and thirty by one account and a hundred and fifty by another; the villa itself publishes no figure. It is seventy-five kilometres from Milan, thirty-five from Lugano, and twenty-five from Malpensa, which is the number that matters when half the guest list is flying in.

Put the three together and there is a version of this wedding where the place, the kitchen and the design arrive from one studio and one conversation. That is unusual enough to be the headline, and it is worth saying plainly that it is optional in both directions. Couples hire the villa without hiring the studio. Couples hire the studio and never go near the villa, because the work runs the length of Italy. But when a couple does take all three, the number of things that can be lost between two suppliers drops to almost none.
The work itself is not quiet. Look down the length of a table he has dressed and you will find mixed flowers in pink and purple with no gap in the run, green glass plates, blue-tinted stemware. Elsewhere: coral anthuriums and red tapers standing on a mirrored table under a crystal chandelier, in a frescoed hall with stained glass at the windows, a hot palette put deliberately into a cool room. A cake of five tiers covered entirely in roses. A runner of pink roses down the full length of a table with crystal ranked at every place. Two grooms cutting a yellow cake painted by hand with flowers while sparkler fountains go up behind them. This is a colourist’s practice, and it does not pretend to be a beige one.

What keeps it from being merely loud is that the register moves with the building. A gilded hall in Lombardy already has its chandeliers and a ceiling that has been winning arguments for two hundred years, so the table goes low and pale and the design gets out of the way. He will lay a hollow rectangle of table under the chandeliers with the centre filled in green rather than in height, and put the guests in gold chairs because the room is already gold. That is a sightlines decision before it is a decorative one.
A whitewashed courtyard in the south is the opposite problem. In Puglia he lays a table in white and lavender directly in front of the trulli, with the conical stone roofs standing behind it, and lets the buildings do the talking. On a walled masseria terrace he sets round tables with the vineyards running out to the horizon and adds not a flower more than the view can carry. In a garden with nothing overhead he goes tall, because height is the only thing that will register.
And in Florence he does something different again: a pale pink cake set beside a grand piano in a white and gold salon, a copper urn of roses behind it, red roses on gilt stands at knee height. The room is Florentine and formal and the scheme answers it in kind. Three regions, three logics. A designer who travels his scheme unchanged is a designer who never read the place.

The ceremonies are handled with the same attention as the receptions, which is not always true in this trade. One of the strongest frames in the portfolio is also one of the simplest: an aisle laid out under a single oak at the end of the afternoon, white pom-poms on poles down both sides, the light coming in flat and low through the branches, and nothing constructed overhead at all. The tree is the architecture. Somebody had to decide not to build an arch there, and that decision is the work.
Another shows a couple walking back down the aisle with the guests applauding and open water behind them, and another has them aboard a wooden launch with the ensign at the stern, which on Lake Maggiore is less a photograph than a logistics plan that came off.

"Living each project by going beyond furnishing and decorating, creating and communicating emotion: that is what it means to be an emotion designer."

Emotion designer is his own phrase and it would be easy to file under marketing, except that the output behind it is unusually documented. He publishes on his own imprint, Garini della Sforzesca Editore, and the list includes the Italian manual on wedding planning, a history of the art of receiving now in its second edition, a book on wedding scenography and decor, a bride’s diary, and two volumes of children’s books teaching manners. He publishes a magazine, Immagina. He co-hosts a podcast, Let’s Celebrate, with Tabata Caldironi. He teaches the subject at institutes in Italy and abroad, directs the study centre at Federmep and presides over Hey Italy. Grazia and Orticalab both place him on the Real Time programme Wedding Planners alongside Enzo Miccio, which in Italy is where a good part of the public understanding of this profession came from.
Two honours followed in early 2026. Sposi Magazine, an Italian trade outlet with no connection to the studio, names him among the recipients of a Let’s Planner career award for galateo and the art of the table, presented at Villa Miani in Rome on 28 February. A separate outlet covering the same event describes him instead as a member of the judging panel, so the two accounts do not agree on which side of that award he was standing. A fortnight later, the WIM for PRO community made him an ambassador in Milan, by the studio’s own account; independent coverage confirms the event took place but does not name him in connection with it. Read both, then, as real standing in the Italian trade rather than settled fact on the specifics.

The commercial terms are simple and slightly unfashionable. There is no price list. There never has been: the archived versions of the studio site from 2012, 2018 and 2023 carry no figure either, and the 2023 page offers only a free first consultation. Each celebration is quoted against its own brief, which here means the number of days, the number of locations, how much of the table and the kitchen the studio is asked to take on, and how much of the design is built rather than hired. Venue hire and outside suppliers are contracted and paid separately. The practical advice is to ask for the design and planning fee and the banqueting figure as two distinct numbers, because that is how the studio holds them.
The diary is the harder constraint. Requests arrive ten to fourteen months out, he runs the site visits himself, and he estimates about a month of his own working time per celebration alongside the architecture and the teaching. The first meeting is a conversation and costs nothing, and by his own account he is using it to work out whether the empathy is there, because everything after it runs on that.

Who you actually deal with is published and short. Angelo Garini takes wedding, event and design enquiries. Valerie Garini takes anything centred on the villa. Two associated salotti extend the reach: Verona, covering the Veneto and Lake Garda, and Maglie in the province of Lecce, covering Puglia. That is the whole named organisation, and it is a smaller claim than the studio made a few years ago, which is worth respecting rather than inflating.
The gap in the record is a strange one for a practice of this standing. There is no seedable client review anywhere on a permitted source. The Milan business appears on Google filed under Architect, with no reviews at all, while the wedding designers a few streets away sit on twenty and thirty each. The villa’s own Google listing averages 4.8 from fourteen reviews but is unclaimed, is miscategorised as a holiday flat, and every entry rates the scenery rather than a wedding. The one public Facebook recommendation runs to four words. Nothing has been invented to fill that space here, and nothing should be. It is a visibility problem rather than a quality one, and it is fixable in an afternoon by the person it belongs to.
What is left, in the meantime, is the work and the bibliography. An architect who reads a room before he dresses it, a kitchen and a design sharing one desk, and a house on a lake that has been in the family long enough to be worth lending. Enough to judge a practice on, and considerably more than most of this trade puts on the table before the first call.
