About Peckforton Castle

A red sandstone medieval-style castle in the Cheshire hills, for a grand exclusive-use wedding.

Peckforton Castle is a red sandstone Grade I listed castle set high in the Peckforton Hills of Cheshire, built in the 19th century for Lord Tollemache and described as the only intact medieval-style castle in the country. Now a castle hotel, it hosts exclusive-use weddings in a vaulted Great Hall and five licensed rooms, with tapestried reception rooms, grand sandstone staircases, in-house dining and 48 individually designed bedrooms, one wedding a day.

Peckforton Castle is one of the most striking wedding venues in the north of England, a red sandstone castle built in the 19th century as the home of Lord Tollemache and set high in the wooded Peckforton Hills of Cheshire. It is described as the only intact medieval-style castle in the country, and it looks the part: towers and battlements, a gatehouse and inner courtyard, a great vaulted hall, all raised above the Cheshire plain with the ruins of Beeston Castle across the valley.

Inside, the castle is grand in the baronial sense. The Great Hall rises to a stone vault and hosts ceremonies beneath its arches, one of five licensed rooms; tapestried reception rooms are lit by chandeliers and tall candelabra for the wedding breakfast; and grand sandstone staircases and shadowed archways give the day a sense of drama that only a real castle can. Grade I listed and run as a castle hotel, it is available for exclusive use, so a couple takes the whole place.

Weddings here are large and generous when they want to be: up to 165 for a ceremony and wedding breakfast, up to 350 for an evening reception, with one wedding a day and no one else in the building. Dining is by the castle's own kitchens, the 1851 Restaurant and the 2010 Brasserie, and 48 individually designed bedrooms, from four-poster rooms to suites, mean the whole party stays the night within the walls.

Dining at Peckforton Castle is by the castle's own kitchens. The 1851 Restaurant serves contemporary fine dining beneath the old stone, and the 2010 Brasserie offers something more relaxed, while wedding breakfasts are laid in the tapestried reception rooms under chandeliers and candlelight. Afternoon tea, canapes and Champagne set the tone earlier in the day, and the celebration carries on into the evening in a castle set entirely to your wedding.
