Swinton Park is one of the grandest wedding venues in the north of England, a turreted castle hotel set on the Cunliffe-Lister family's 20,000-acre estate near the market town of Masham, deep in the Yorkshire Dales. Its ivy-clad round tower rises above the parkland, and behind the castellated front the castle keeps the ease of a country house: log fires, deep sofas, and long views over the lake, the deer park and the fells beyond.
Weddings here take many shapes. Couples marry in licensed rooms within the castle, the gold-walled Panelled Room among them, then celebrate in the Ballroom beneath its chandelier; or they take the day outdoors to the Deer House, an open timber barn overlooking the Deer Park, and to the woodland tipi at Swinton Bivouac. The castle holds up to a hundred guests, and can be taken exclusively so the whole party has the run of the place.
Beyond the wedding there is an estate to enjoy: a Country Club and Spa with indoor and outdoor pools, a hydrotherapy pool and sauna, a celebrated cookery school in the old Georgian kitchen, and falconry, walks and gardens across twenty thousand acres. Beyond the castle, stone cottages and lodges and the woodland cabins of Swinton Bivouac are scattered across the estate, so families and larger parties can stay together. The castle can be taken exclusively, giving a couple every bedroom and the whole house, and turning a wedding into a weekend in the Dales.

Dining at Swinton Park is by the estate's own kitchens, modern British and Yorkshire cooking that draws on the estate's own game, garden produce and local suppliers, served in the castle and on the terrace. The estate's cookery school, in the Georgian country-house kitchen, is one of the best known in the country, and the Terrace restaurant and bar looks out over the parkland for relaxed lunches and drinks. Wedding menus are built around the couple, from canapes on the lawn to a wedding breakfast beneath the chandeliers.
