A 14th-century fortress above Assisi, Umbria, on 50 hectares.
Castello di Petrata is a 14th-century fortress set on 50 hectares of Umbrian hillside above Assisi, with panoramic terraces overlooking the valley, La Limonaia glass hall, an exclusive couple's spa and 22 rooms sleeping up to 60 guests. Couples marry in the castle's gardens or beneath the glass roof of La Limonaia, dine on zero-kilometre farm produce from the estate's own olive groves and truffle grounds, and take the entire fortress for their own.
Castello di Petrata is a 14th-century fortified castle standing on 50 hectares of Umbrian hillside five kilometres above Assisi, its stone towers and ancient walls looking out over the valley and, on a clear day, toward Perugia. The estate has been restored as a hotel and wedding venue, gathering in a single address the original fortress, La Limonaia glass hall, panoramic terraced gardens, a vaulted wine cellar, an exclusive couple's spa and 22 rooms sleeping the whole wedding party within the castle walls.
For weddings, couples take the castle in its entirety: ceremonies in the gardens or beneath the glass roof of La Limonaia, aperitivi on the terraces with the basilica of Assisi catching the afternoon light below, and dinners drawn from the estate's own zero-kilometre kitchen, where olive oil, truffles, salami, fresh pasta and bread come from the land within the gates. The couple's spa, with its outdoor jacuzzi terrace directly above the Assisi valley, completes a wedding of genuine Umbrian immersion.
